Digital Divide

During this unit I learned about a divide between the people with the access of high speed internet and the people with little to no access to the internet at all. The people without access to the internet are usually living in rural areas or more lower class areas. The problem is that private internet companies don’t always find it profitable to provide high speed internet to areas that hard to get to and have small populations. Companies may also charge more for areas like these due to additional costs for company.

Although some cities are beginning to provide interner access for their citizens due to an increasing amount of relance we as a society have on the internet. Most of our school work, job info, financial info, and communication with others is through the internet. More and more mandatory things such as college application, job applications, and bank accounts are becoming online primarily and usually have a long process for any other methods. Which is why it is extremely important for every single person to have access to the internet, so they can have an equal chance and equal opportunities in our society.
